AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (July 27) - Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Europe's second-largest oil company, reported a 40 percent increase in second-quarter earnings Thursday as high oil prices offset production difficulties in Nigeria and the Gulf of Mexico.
Net profit rose to $7.32 billion from $5.24 billion a year earlier. Sales rose less than 1 percent to $83.1 billion from $82.6 billion.
Chief Executive Jeroen van der Veer said in a statement the earnings were "underpinned by overall good operational performance and not simply high energy prices."

You, apparently, do not speak "corporat-ese"!
And, just tink what a gigantic windfall the government got in taxes. The oil companies make about 9 cents per gallon of gas, and in the state I live in the direct taxes on gas total about 48 cents.
Yes, indeed - and interesting that few people either noticer or care.. like witholding, it is "hidden" so they don't seem to feel it....Originally Posted by DennisWG
