Dude I wish you could seen my Mom Maverick

    Eric,

This sled was red, white vinyl top. Plaid inserts in the black vinyl seats. A 302 with 2 inch 2 ply tires. It made the average NASCAR smoker look weak. It just needed some Z rate Michelins and those plaid seat were like black coffee. They woke you up.

My Dad had the Ford equivalent of an El Camino and this ride had a 390 and was so fast it was dangerous. You may have been quite young at the time. Life was cool back then. The tires were NOT!

    JillsUncle,

Re: Dude I wish you could seen my Mom Maverick

Ya know, I had a buddy who owned a ('73, I think) Maverick with the 302/2-barrel. We put a 4-BBL and duals as well as a Grabber hood on it, with 15x7 rims and it was a fun/different kind of street machine. The Mavs have lots of potential but have been loooked askance at by the hobbyists - who continue to push up the price of mainstream street machines like the Mustang.

Me, I'd like to get another Corvair (or probably more likely, a VW Thing) as my next old car....

Every once in a while a Corvair in decent shape shows up for sale around here. Do you want me to keep you posted?

No harm in letting me know (uh... well, maybe I better re-think that!)
