This is a great "one stop" web link for classic GTO (and Firebird) parts:

It's a big bone of contention, as you might imagine.
For my part, I don't consider any Pontiac built after 1981 (the final year for a Pontiac-built V-8) to be anything more than a re-skinned Chevy....
perfect timing, just picked up a 66 goat convert - THANKS
GREAT choice!Originally Posted by larryflew

got carried away on auction and bought a $12k car for $14k. 10 footer if you know what I mean. Is 389 but 4 barrel rebuilt 200 miles ago. 350 auto. LOTS of pitted trim inside and out. Probably had no convertible top and sat in the woods for years before this guy "restored" it. Runs good etc so it is just more project than I was looking for.

Did you run the VIN through PHS?
correct size and year engine but not from GTO. Not a super bad buy but no where near what the guy made it out to be. Could do a couple thousand on trim alone I'm afraid.
Kind of decided to drive it for a year or two and hope it goes up enough to recover costs before any rust etc might come back because as crooked as he was with the rest he probably did some paint over rust things too.
Well, I doubt you'll lose money - and I know you'll have fun driving it!Originally Posted by larryflew
Sometimes a nice "driver" - with a few flaws but overall solid - is preferable to a near-perfect resto that you can't drive without worrying about stone chips, etc.
I go back and forth on this issue with my Trans-Am. It still looks very presentable, but the paint is getting tired and has spider webs on the hood as well as plenty of chips and minor dings all over the place. Do I spend the $12k or so to get a concours repaint? And then be scared to ever drive the thing? Or keep it as is for awhile...?
It's a tough call.
Rightnow, I feel no discomfort laying a huge burnout, spitting asphalt and rocks behind me as I go. But would I ever do that again after spending $12k to make the body perfect?
