    Re: Worst dealer experience?

The local VW dealer was a triple loser. No idea why I bought the car from them, but I just had to have it...

    Sales department
While negotiating to buy the car, I got bored sitting in the salesman's micro-office, and went wandering around the showroom, waiting for him to return from his consultation with the sales manager at "the tower". I overheard them discussing my trade-in. Specifically, I overheard the salesmanager say quite loudly: "$7000 for that piece of shit?".

I got my revenge -- a few days later I got the customer satisfaction call from VW of America. :

    Service department
Driving to work one day the airbag (SRS) light came on. So I slid the seat all the way back and gingerly drove to the dealership instead. You know it's going to be expensive when the service writer asks if you bought the extended warranty. And in this case, I had (VW was coming off a period of poor quality, so I felt I might need it. I was right.)

At 4:30 they called me back to say my car was ready, with a new driver's airbag unit. I paid the deductable for the warranty ($25 -- wheee!), got my keys, and slid behind the wheel to find they had replaced my black leather-wrapped steering wheel for a gray plastic one. Uh-oh.

So I go back into talk to the service writer who replied "Yeah, the mechanic said something about that, but I didn't understand what he was saying, so I just told him to go ahead".

He summons the mechanic, who explains that VW changed the shape of the steering wheel and airbag, and that the new style airbag didn't fit my old-style wheel. So we all march over to the parts department.

    Parts department
The parts department guy says "The gray one was the only one we had in stock". Surely Vokswagen sells cars with black leather interiors! Why, there's one on the showroom floor with one right now! But they wouldn't pull the wheel from it -- and said they'd have to order one and that it would take a couple of days.

Fine, I said. Get me a loaner and I'll leave the car with you until that time. "Oh no, we don't give out loaners".

Spotting the old wheel on the floor of the parts department I said "How about you put the old wheel on, and I'll just drive the car until the part comes in?" They quickly replied "No, we couldn't let you drive the car without a functioning airbag." "But I came in here with a non-functioning airbag -- what's the difference?"

We went back & forth a few times, with the result that I ended up paying for a rental car.

So now not only will I not ever buy a car from them ever again, I won't buy a car from any of their other dealerships or brands, either.Yes, I hold grudges.

    I would too! Crikey!

That's deserving of some serious revenge work... such ashaving a friend go to the dealer's showroom floor, "look over" some cars and while he's looking (and no one else is) slipping used-looking condoms in the glovebox (or under the seats)... or better yet, stuffing a dead crab up in the kick panel, real tight....

That's not the only story I have from them -- just the worst one.

Another one that illustrates their level of in-competence:
I showed up for an oil-change. I had a case of Mobil-1 in the passenger floorboard, and told the service writer that I wanted them to use my oil.

Sure enough, 30 minutes later, I get the car back and the oil is still sitting in the car.
I had them do it again.

It's a sad time here on the Sunshine Coast. Steve's Australia Zoo is about 3o minutes from my home

He truly was a Wild life Warrior!

I would only be too pleased to take any forum members contemplating a visit to this part of the world to his Zoo, so they can see and FEEL the great work he has done so far

    Hi Rex,

My wife and I watched "Crocodile Hunter" frequently and are saddened by Irwin's death. He seemed genuinely interested in the animals .. and a decent, "regular guy," too. He'll be missed... .

Anytime you have to beg for attention from a business it's time to take your business elsewhere. I hate that entitlement (to your dollars) mentality ....
