I had to renew my vehicle tag, so I stopped by on the way to work this morning. Unlike most "I went to the DMV" threads, this one has a happy ending -- I was able to walk right up to the counter, pay my $33 (they even take checks!), and be out of there in less than 10 minutes.
Yup. It's gonna be a good day.

Good for you - but...I can top that. When renewal time rolls around I just log on to www.servicearizona.com, wend my way through the screens, fill in my credit card number, and a few days later my renewed registration in in my mailbox.Originally Posted by chiph
Just like Dennis, I go to www.dmv.ca.gov and after a couple of clicks, entering the code on the renewal letter and the CC I get the sticker in the mail in under a week.

The only thing that one needs to go the DMV or to the Auto Club in CA is to register a used car that has been purchased.
But to renew a D/L when it has been over 3 or 4 renewals and they may want a "fresh" picture you need to go to the DMV.

I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME THAT HATED METROPOLIS. I must say that the DMV in Delaware is fast and efficient. D/L, Tag, inspection all in mintes. The price tag is nearly a grand, but the service is great. Car has been tricked and they are too stupid to realize it is probably not street legal.

Sounds to me as if your state has too many troopers or not enough for them to do - here, you'd just drive until some officer spotted the lapsed registration and wrote you up, although scofflaws can have the vehicle impounded.
That's still cheap, Kwozzie, I went to get the tags for my vehicle, the gal said 501, being used to fees in the 50 dollar range - I thought, Wow! That's great. I wrote out a check for five dollars and one cent. She pushed the check back at me and said that is $501.00 - I would have choked on my teeth if they hadn't been fastened. A couple of questions: How much is registration and how much is property tax; and, what year/make/model vehicle? The registration here in AZ is only $28 but the property tax on a current year vehicle of the high end can run the total bill well over $500.
I don't remember. I asked DH and he didn't either. I have an 04 Chysler Town & Country Limited. The shitheads here only get into my pocket for $50 on the truck; $25 each on the Trans-Am and old Kaw. The new bike carries the stiffest hit - $75 .
In Texas it's not bad - no personal property tax on autos, and my latest registration renewal (just got it in the mail yesterday) is $71. That does, however, include a Dallas County "Road and Bridge Fee" of $10, most of which obviously must be going to something other than roads and bridges, given the putrid state of the streets around here, and the fact we now have a fanatic in the governor's office who wants to slap a toll on everything in sight.
But what bugs me most of all is the extra $1 "convenience fee" they charge you if you want to renew by mail instead of standing in line!!! Make it $2 if you want to renew online!!! Okay, okay, I know we're talking about small change, but it's the principle of the thing that bugs me...
