    2007 Buyer's Guide - Saab

    2007 Saab

    2007 9-3

The mid-size 9-3 is the sportiest model to be built off of General Motors' global "Epsilon" platform, which also provides the underpinnings for the Chevrolet Malibu and the Pontiac G6. The 9-3 carries Saab-exclusive styling and preserves such traditional quirks as locating the ignition key on the floor between the two front seats. The car comes in three trim levels with both sedan and convertible versions offered. Base models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder that generates 210 horsepower. This engine is also standard in the SportCombi wagon,

The optional 2.8 liter V-6 uses variable intake valve timing and a twin-scroll turbocharger to generate 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed-manual transmission is standard on the base versions, while a six-speed manual gearbox comes with the Aero -- along with a sport suspension and stability control. Standard equipment includes four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, front-side and side-curtain airbags, and traction control. For 2007, all models receive a new design instrument cluster and other minor revisions but the 9-3 is mostly a carryover from 2006.

    2007 Saab 9-5

An Anniversary Edition of the otherwise carryover 9-5 sedan is the only major change in lineup for 2007. An Aero package also replaces last year's Sport package. All versions, including the base 9-5 2.3T, have a 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.3 liter four as standard equipment. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard -- with a five-speed automatic available as an option. Other stock gear includes a sunroof, leather seats, and 17-inch alloy wheels; a six-CD, in-dash changer also comes standard in the 9-5, along with XM satellite radio and an input jack for MP3 players. All models feature a cooled glovebox to keep drinks chilled as well as leather-trimmed interiors with dual-zone climate control and can be ordered with the latest version of GM's OnStar concierge system with voice recognition.

    2007 Saab 9-7x

Saab's first-ever SUV is really a well-equipped version of the models that are otherwise marketed as the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy and Isuzu Ascender. It does, however, add some token Saab-specific styling cues and details, such as an ignition cylinder that's located in the center console behind the gear lever. As with its other General Motors-related brethren, power comes from a 290-horsepower, 4.2-liter in-line six-cylinder engine. A high-torque, 300-horsepower V-8 powerplant that generates 330 lb-ft of torque is also available for added low-end muscle -- with the V-8 being an unusual thing to find in a Saab. Both engines are fitted to a four-speed automatic transmission and a fully automatic all-wheel drive system with a limited-slip rear differential comes standard. For '07, the 9-7x gets a standard tire pressure monitoring system and the latest version of GM's OnStar system, with "Turn by Turn" navigational assistance. All trim levels come standard with ABS and rear-wheel electronic traction assist, a fully independent suspension with electronically controlled air shocks in the rear, 18-inch wheels and tires, side-curtain airbags and a state-of-the-art audio system, among myriad other features. Options include a DVD entertainment array, upgraded audio system, and a power sunroof.

......and the Cadillac BLS, but maybe they don't want Americans, with memories of the Cimarron, to know about that!
