A mystery for Mormons (but only because it's in Utah!)

What happened to Lake Bonneville? The spot we know as the Great Salt Lake is, in fact, the remnants of Lake Bonneville, one of the largest inland seas in the world at one time. No one is quite sure what happened to it, but the evidence is that whatever happened was a fairly sudden occurrence. Some theorize it drained out through the Snake River, cutting much of its canyons in a fairly short period of time.

It IS interesting to see the very clear demarkation where the shorlines once were, well above the highest buildings in Salt Lake City!

God needed a place for some speed runs?

On a smaller scale, the same phenomenon can be seen just west of St. Albans, VT, reminders of a time when the eastern shore of Lake Champlain extended another mile or two.

    Very interesting Mike.

According to my daughter (who is a geologist for the state of Idaho) that's far more than just a theory. The force of the outflow has left recognizable debris for hundreds of miles west along the Snake River.

Well, you see -- global warming has been going on for a long time, that's why we no longer live on glaciers. If it continues, the developers will be up and down on the poles building housing.

Someday it will reverse and we will be the ones dying off and the glaciers return.
