US reaction to to global temperature and weather dynamics is mostly media-driven.

I have a modest uni experience of science, my brother works for the Met Service, another brother works in pure mathematics for the gummint [which I tell you, is essentially helping people who are out-of-their-depth with anythng to do with arcane stuff], and Microsoft is not used. Another brother does encryption for security, another was and is a very successful accountant. \ one sister \ heaps of grandkids \

now, I would like to say to you rather severely that Global Warming is real.

The big issues are current warming and dealing with deserts, starvation, and poltical consequences.

PS I don't think the climate thing is as big as overpopulation.

Assuming, for the moment, that to be the case, we should praise the Scots for having the prescience to place the world's best distilleries out of harm's way.

Listen, nitpicker, we define 'global warming' as average recorded temperature.

We also measure trace elements in ice-an carbon-cores from ancient deposits.

From there we make computer models.

What is indisputably the truth, thankyou Colleen for bringing this thread back to life, so I can give jdm a serious thrashing.

In 1990, 1/3 of all the earth temperature measuring stations were closed. Suddenly, in 1991, we have "global warming." A possible connection?

And those "computer models" can't predict the weather a week from now.

When it comes to computer modeling, do you know what the term GIGO means?

Then you need to give me a "serious thrashing" as well, since I believe that what is being observed in cyclic. And let's face we are no longer in the Industrial Revolution we have evolved to a "service oriented" society and the next generation needs to have some scientific endeavors and comodity to maintain the economy so why not "Gobel Warming" as being the next big "scientific breakthrough". People will buy anything if you package it right!!

BS. Weather measurements used in weather simply do not suddenly get 'closed'.

Not in one fell swoop anyway.

We ARE still in an industrial cycle.

The US doesn't produce a lot of everyday goods anymore.

There is no "scientific breakthrough"... there are just more people on a planet with limited resources.
It's not a matter of "right" vs "wrong"... otherwise all Western people would be guilty of greed and comfort.
Global warming is not a religion. It's a fact in many areas [but not all] of the world. C02 has some effect.

    What's this 'we' stuff?

What you really need to do is record and analyze Elvis sightings and thus be able to predict his next appearance.

You DO realize the earth warmer 1,000 year ago than it is now, right? I mean, let's start with some basics and see if you have a handle on that.
