How high would gas prices have to get before you were forced to make significant changes with regard to your driving habits or general lifestyle?
It seems to me that while people are unhappy about $3 per gallon, it hasn't caused any noticeable change in people's driving (although sales of large SUVs, etc. have been heading south).
For me, it would have to get to $6 or more before I'd make makor adjustments such as using my motorcycle as primary transport.
What's your personal tipping point?

What MPG does your bike get? Seems to me that some cars can do better in the MPG department.
And what vehicle I take depends on the need. We took the V-8 pick up truck to Reno this time, because we need the truck for various things while here. What I need to do usually won't change by the price of the gasoline.
I noticed gasoline is just starting to come down a little, just as I expected it would a couple of days after Memorial Day. And it will go lower, IMO, until people stop screaming about it as much. And later, the same BS starts over again in a couple of months or so.

Gasoline would have to double in price.
Then I would use the V8 for fun, and something fuel-efficient should I need to travel. There would of course be lots of screaming from people in outer suburbs and vested interests ... car dealers, "It's our right to drive' etc.
My Cobalt runs 31-33 all the time. My RD350 didn't do any better. But it was a hot 2-stroke. A lot of bikes are in the 40-50 range.Originally Posted by DonTom

The KL250 can tickle 70 mpg. No car I know of can do that!
MY ZRX can manage 45 mpg - and it's a helluva lot more fun than anything on four wheels that can do that!~

My DR200SE can even beat that, with about an 80 MPG average. But I was thinking only about your larger bike. Seems most of them get about 40 MPG, and so do some cars.
Your 45 MPG with your larger bike beats both my 750 CC BMW and 1200 CC Ventures. They both get 40 MPG tops, with 36 to 38 MPG much more common, at freeway speeds. I never had either of them go far enough at slower speeds to know what the MPG would be at say, 45 MPH and below.
But my BMW is a 1971 and the Venture is a 1984. I know newer bikes with the EFI and etc., get much better MPG.

The ZRX has four carbs!
And the odds are good you could take two off, still make virtually as much power, and get a good deal better mileage, because carbs work better as they get closer to a constant flow.

That's about the same as my BMW (419 with no gas, 463 with full tank and tools). But my Ventrue weights in at 736 lbs. I have orginal owner's manuals for both bikes here.

My Honda Helix 250 does an average of 68 MPG

It's a Scooter, so with a poncho on your body, the floor pan will keep the water off your bottom.

The Helix has CVT and a cruise control also-- 2 out of 3 ain't bad!
