Be careful of what you're doing when the Google camera truck drives by.

A finger buried in the nose is said to cause the cameras to be pointed the other way.

On the other hand, the perp up in KC was caught due to a plethora of surveillance cameras.

True - but as the saying goes, hard cases make bad law. We could also nab more "crooks" by giving police power to search anyone and anything without warrants or probable cause. Etc.

There has always been a surveillance society in small towns and villages, there is absolutely no privacy but no one talks about it.

You'd be aghast at the 'knowledge' of local cops in these areas.

Well, yeah ... but at least you know those people - and they're not some corporate entity/government bureaucrat!

That's true, but there is still no privacy.

I think that the federal government comes in a poor second when compared to 'corporate,' too.

The key to all of this is to be so boring that anyone investigating you will fall asleep after ten minutes.

1984 has arrived, a little tardy, but just as oppressive.

The scariest surveillance that I have encountered so far was in Albany, New York. A friend and I were shopping at Macy's, I took some garments into a dressing room, when I went in there was a sign that read, "Warning: Video surveillance by same sex security." I was incensed - that was over the top.And the gall of them to think that I would feel more comfortable have a Dike watch me undress, rather than a hormone-charged man.

    Over the top!

Exactly! Just let me strap on my six-shooters to protect myself and kept my freedom.

Corporations, as JDM pointed out, are even worse than government; ever read about ChoicePoint?

So, did you buy the dress, or did you walk out and let the clerk/manager know why you weren't shopping there?

Good stuff; you might enjoy it. Frank Herbert was a great writer... . Like Phillip Dick, he saw the dark side of technology; a view that I share, as you know...

Remember the unibomber? He was a very extreme case of a technophobe.
