The landing approach at the airport in St. Maarten is close to the beach. Very close.

From my meager OZ experience, the beaches a few miles north of Port D are peaceful going to deserted. Now, it they wanted to talk about box jellyfish, that would be another story.Originally Posted by Kwozzie1
That looks like a horrible stretch of beach anyway. What bugs me isn't the aircraft's proximity to the beach, but to the public road that runs between that narrow strip of beach and the airport.

It was pretty cool - and a lot like that video!
The proximity of the road to the flight path looks about the same as that at one of the La Guardia runways and a major highway. Scares the hell out of me, too. At some airports there are traffic signals to stop the car traffic when the road is jujst too close.Originally Posted by misterdecibel
There was a runway overrun accident, years ago, that nailed a car and driver. Believe it was B-47 in Florida, but I haven't been able to find it.Originally Posted by jdm

Why not?

That wasn't what I had in mind but it is definitely true. In my experience it's even worse when a broken fuel line is next to a broken O2 line.
In such a case it is time to get out and walk - immediately!Originally Posted by jdm
