It's easy to show a one-time profit by selling assets. A lot harder would be producing goods & services that people want to, you know... buy.

Ford reported a profit of some $750 million dollars in the last quarter. Surprised even them, I think.
It also looks like Cerberus is having trouble raising the funds for their Chrysler buyout.

I think they did it by closing plants and laying off people.
To quote Dilbert's pointy-haired boss:
