    As cat owners know...

for some reason, cat's don't seem to choose their bed solely for its comfort.

A cat owner will know that if you have a room with a nice comfy carpet completely clear, and put a sheet of typing paper on the floor, the cat will lie on the paper.

We've noticed this also; the cats always sit on whatever's "new" in a room - whether it's a box that we opened and left on the counter or a laptop on the sofa.

One of our cats likes to open various kitchen cabinets, sit inside for awhile, then come out - and do the same with the next cabinet. She adroitely negotiates the pans and plates, rarely disturbing a thing.

Beelzekittyimmediately knows when I've decided to take a nap. She will scamper into the room, make a sort-of gurgling/growling sound, then hop on to the bed, climb onto my chest, curl up - and lights out. She will usually purr the entire time, which for me has a metronome-like soothing quality that puts me right out!

There are evolutionary reasons for some of the behavior. Cats like to have something behind them, so they can't be sneaked up on, for example. They also have "preferred" locations, which change by the time of day, so that the alpha cat always gets the preferred spot. It may be by a certain window when the sun is rising. The alpha cat will be there, and the others will have to go elsewhere. But in the evening it may be on a chair in the living room.

Is that using a vacuum cleaner?? My Cat used really like that. I was always worried he might lose an eye as he rubbed up against the nozzle.

    Nope!

She's as jet black and shiny as a panther. In fact, we sometimes call her our "house panther"!

Domestic cat characteristics and behavior are closest to tigers. Odd fact.

The old belief was that a purely black cat, no white hairs at all, was a witch's familiar. Odd that the cat in "Harry Potter" was actually a pretty good double for Punkin, whose picture leads this thread.

Hermione's cat familiar was a orange Persian.
The Hogwart's caretaker's cat was a Maine Coon.

We suspect Beelzekitty may be a Bombay cat; she has all the characteristics - very shiny all-black (short-hair) coat; copper/yellow eyes and smaller frame than the standard cat. She is probably 15 percent smaller overall than our other two cats, anorange tabby and a seal-point Siam (mixed). I wish we knew more about her origins, but all we've got is that our vet found her at the gas station up the road, where she'd been left by some good old boys in an old truck....

Hermione's cat was part kneazle, if I recall correctly. And if the term is foreign to you, you haven't read closely enough!

But you're right, the cat that plays Crookshanks in the movie was Persian.
