..saw a Corvair the other day

I was in town, shopping - and spied a maroon Corvair coupe; turned around to have a look. It turned out to be a '63, not a Monza - and an automatic (which killed it for me). But it was a nice example, otherwise and brought back memories. Had it been a 4-speed car I would have been very tempted!

I just read about a '64 Spyder convertible going for $50k... apparently, the highest a Corvair has ever brought - which I don't doubt. Before I read about this, I'd never heard of any Corvair going for more than $15k or so - and that was for a perfect restoration. Most "drivers" sell for well under $10k. Closer to $5k, in fact.

    What color was the inside?

My dad had a 1963 Corvair which was white with a red racing stripe on the side. The inside was red. It was an automatic as well.

In their own odd way, those were beautiful cars. They seemed to have some larger car styling in a small package and a unique drivetrain.

I wish GM would bring something like it back. It would be cool to have something that didn't require power steering.
