    Just how safe can you make a car?

    Here's a crash at 300 mph. The driver got a cut on his finger.

    (Stock car and F1 are both a lot more survivable than they were as recently as 10 years ago; some amazing wrecks you'd never believe anyone survived drivers walk away from... )

    There have been no F1 deaths since 1994.

    Motor racing in general is much safer, even at club level. The biggest single improvement in recent years has been the HANS device; I don't have any data, but subjectively I'd say that it has contributed to a significant reduction in neck injuries.

    That was in 1994. Him and Karl Wendlinger. There have been none since. Nor any traumatic amputations. Unlike Champ Car, IRL, or NASCAR...
