There is some good news coming from the Democratic congress for a change. 30 representatives have cosponsored legislation that would require automakers to provide diagnostic tools and service information to independent repair shops. They would have the same access to the same information that dealerships have.

Well, maybe not good, but at least better. Those manuals are famous for leaving out little bits of information that can only be found in the complete manual.

That depends on what's wrong, then just as now. I've found it best to own every manual possible for each vehicle.
In some cases, what you want cannot be found in any manual, not even the factory service manual, such as USEFUL information abut my hood switch in my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Stuff such as where it's located and what it looks like.
The main problem with the Haynes and Chilton is one manual applies to ten years worth of cars, often several models in one book. The examples shown might not even be for your vehicle when you have the correct manual.
