    Harley offers ABS

Is the world coming to an end? Harley now offers ABS as a factory option on the V-Rod.

The V-Rod is also water cooled.

ABS has been available on several other bikes for a while now.

HD is nothing if not derivative.

Well, given that Harleys are not really performance bikes and tend to be ridden by older guys with less skill - it may not be a bad idea....

I went to the local HD Shop to get my Honda Helix a state inspection. As I was leaving, the service mgr said for me to be careful exiting the driveway-- I asked why-- he said that he warns all riders about the wall that is across 4 lanes and elevates the freeway, and the riders keep their eye on it and run directly into it-- The wall has crash marks. More than one from smashed HOGs---
Inexperienced riders haven't learned to look in the direction of the turn and the bike will go where you look!
ABS won't help someone who doesn't know the basics.

    Exactly!

And here's another thing with "hogs" today:

Many are ridden by inexperienced/first-time riders in their 40s and up - the group that also happens to be over-represented in crashes these days.

20-30 years ago, Harleys were mostly ridden by serious dudes; "bikers." They may have been smelly - but they knew how to handle their machines. Today, Harleys (and their Japanese equivalents) are just as likely to be ridden by the newbie type - and it's these who are the ones getting into trouble with growing frequency!
