    The rod would have to weigh about as much as a motorcycle for the Starlet's 60-70 HP to feel sprightly.

    It would have to weigh close to a matchbox. The starlet only had 58 HP!!! 67 Ft lbs of torque. I wanted to shovel a Corolla engine it (70HP). It would have "flew"

    I did put an Accord engine in a 1975 Honda Civic Wagon. It was decent after that.

    Juuust barely.

    A mid-'80s 550-650 cc bike had about that much power - and they were only running13-14 seconds in the quarter-mile...

    Very true. Of course, that's with the factory carb, intake, and exhaust, all of which could be replaced and the power would come up significantly.

    What I had in mind was a single seat dirt track style T.

    Looks like that could be a lot of fun.

    Wind resistance would be a problem over about 60mph with a small engine like the basic Toyota Starlet, even with mods.

    Maybe aero screen and boat-tail?
