You probably wouldn't notice it, but there is a big corn milling company that first opened in the U.S. in Plainview, TX, called Azteca. They make a lot of the masa flour used in making tortillas all over the U.S.

The floodgates have opened just a bit more, now that Mexican trucks (and thus, Mexican products) can enter the country more easily.

Well..........maybe.

The "Mexican trucks" thing is a little iffy. Three companies actually have permission to come in, but they don't have very many trucks and even fewer drivers who are qualified. And the whole thing may go down in flames any day now.

I'm OK with NAFTA, as long as it's a level playing field. And that includes vehicle safety (if if costs US distributors more to maintain their vehicles, then it's not level)

I have no doubt that we can compete with anyone, given a decent chance.

I saw someone in NC a few weeks ago with a window decal advocating a website called "grinningdog???" It's a dog lover site but why they would chose that southern colloquialism is beyond me.

Enforce the law - and prevent hordes of illegals from entering the country. I'm not buying that we're unable to control our borders, helpless to prevent illegal aliens from coming in virtually at will.

And if that's the case, then the "Homeland Security" department and all the post-9/11 bullshit justified on the basis of "security" needs to be dismantled.

Enforcing the existing laws, yes - that needs to be done. As far as "controlling the border", that will take 50 years and a Berlin Wall which probably won't be endorsed by enough people to become reality. The real way to control the border is to assist Mexico in increasing their standard of living, down to the very poorest.

And if that's the case, then the "Homeland Security" department and all the post-9/11 bullshit justified on the basis of "security" needs to be dismantled.

That needs to be done in any case. To be told that, when boarding a plane, that you can't carry the cup of coffe aboard that you bought from a kiosk inside the secured area is inane. All Homeland Security has done is create thousands more feeding at the public trough.

But what they do best is to harass US citizens.

As to the public trough, it wouldn't be so bad if they had not enfolded the rent-a-guards of existing private companies.

Precisely - whichis what enrages me most about the illegal alien issue. We (U.S. citizens) are expected to accept body searches/frisks/questioning in order to travel on an airplane - because a "terrorist might get through" security otherwise - yet the same authorities are either unwilling or unable to subject illegal aliens to anything like the same scrutiny, even though they are arguably a far greater "risk" to "security" than an American citizen trying to catch a plane.

I'm sick unto death of the double standard.

Why the hell should we (American citizens) remain docile sheep, expected to know about and obey every damn law these shysters throw out at us - yet the illegals get a wink a nod?

The fact is illegals are involved in a lot of crime in this country; they comprise a a large and growing percentage of criminals incarcerated in prisons and jails (on our nickle)... If "security" and "public safety" are the justifications for all the post-9/11 rigmarole imposed on us, it damn well ought to be sufficient reason to impose at least the same level of rigmarole on them.
