GMC, maker of professional grade trucks for more than 100 years, builds on the key new product launches of 2007 ? which included the Yukon family of full-size sport-utility vehicles, Sierra light-duty and heavy-duty trucks as well as GMC?s first crossover, the Acadia ? with more innovation for 2008. The Yukon Hybrid debuts in ?08, using the world?s first production two-mode full hybrid propulsion system in an SUV. It enables an estimated 25 percent overall improvement in fuel economy.

Yukon Hybrid?s fuel-saving advantages are balanced with a superior driving experience and uncompromised capability. The Yukon Hybrid can tow up to 6,200 pounds (2,812 kg); and to maximize its efficiency, its Vortec V-8 engine is equipped with GM?s Active Fuel Management technology, which switches between four- and eight-cylinder power in certain driving situations.

?The innovative Hybrid system is designed to deliver optimum fuel efficiency in both city and highway driving, the way most Americans use their vehicles,? said Tom Stephens, group vice president, GM Powertrain. ?The Yukon Hybrid doesn?t sacrifice a thing; it delivers 25-percent improvement in overall fuel economy and the capability that the Yukon name has always represented.?

GMC?s SUV lineup also includes the rest of the Yukon lineup, as well as the Yukon XL, Yukon Denali family, Acadia crossover, along with Envoy and Envoy Denali. In the truck department, the Sierra 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD models offer the cab/box configuration and powertrain combination for just about any task or interest. And like its larger Sierra sibling, the Canyon offers truck versatility on a slightly smaller scale. Rounding out GMC?s lineup is the people-hauling Savana, which enters ?08 with a new family of small-block V-8 engines.

Here?s a detailed look at GMC?s 2008 range of Professional Grade trucks:

Yukon & Yukon XL

Last year, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUVs were all-new. They build on that new platform with changes and innovations for the 2008 model year, including the introduction of the Yukon Hybrid and a new six-speed automatic transmission for the Yukon XL 2500 heavy-duty model.

The Yukon and Yukon XL are based on GM?s acclaimed full-size SUV platform and feature distinctive styling, spacious and refined interiors, exceptional driving characteristics and segment-leading safety features. Indeed, safety also is enhanced for ?08, as head curtain side air bags are now standard for all seating rows on all models. Previously they were optional on some models.

Additional changes for ?08 include a 40/20/40-split front bench seat in the base SLE model that provides convenient storage space in the center section; there are also two new exterior colors: Stealth Gray Metallic and Sonoma Red Metallic.

Yukon XL 2500 three-quarter-ton features standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system and available chrome-finish 17-inch aluminum wheels, along with its new, fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission. It?s hooked to a powerful 6.0L V-8.

Yukon Denali & Yukon XL Denali

GMC Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali are the flagships of GMC?s family of professional grade vehicles, offering a unique blend of style, performance and refinement, including the signature honeycomb chrome grille. Yukon Denali models also feature enhanced exterior bright work, unique headlamps, taillamps and rear fascia treatment, as well as unique 18-inch standard polished wheels. Twenty-inch factory-installed chrome wheels are available. Denali-exclusive headlamps and taillamps further the jeweled look of these unique Yukon models, with detailed lighting elements and clear lenses ? with etched GMC logos on the headlamp bezels ? that provide a crystalline appearance and distinctive lighting patterns.

The performance is derived from a 6.2L all-aluminum small-block V-8 engine with variable valve timing and a fuel-saving six-speed automatic transmission. The 6.2L engine is rated at 380 horsepower (283 kW)* ? the most horsepower in its class.

Two new exterior colors are added to the palette for 2008 ? Red Jewel Tintcoat and Dark Slate Metallic ? and later in the model year, 2WD models will be offered.

Standard features include power liftgate, power release second-row fold-and-tumble bucket seat, head curtain side air bags, power-adjustable pedals, heated windshield washer system, electrochromic (auto-dimming) inside mirror, RainSense automatic windshield wipers, remote start system and Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist. From an entertainment standpoint, the vehicles come standard with an AM/FM MP3-capable radio with a six-disc in-dash CD changer, Bose 10-speaker Centerpoint Surround Sound audio system and XM Satellite Radio.

Sierra 1500

Sierra 1500 is available in several trim packages, including Work Truck, SL (crew cab only), SLE (SLE1 and SLE2 models) and SLT, along with 2WD and 4WD configurations. Three cab styles ? regular, extended and crew cab ? and three cargo box lengths ? 5 foot 8 inches, 6 foot 6 inches and 8 foot ? are offered.

The unique Sierra Denali, a truck that fuses performance and unmatched luxury, also returns for 2008. It is a distinct model, with differentiated, exclusive features that elevate its performance and design, such as an exclusive 6.2L all-aluminum V-8 engine with variable valve timing and a six-speed automatic transmission.

It is outfitted with special shocks, unique interior and exterior design cues, 18-inch chrome wheels and more.

Sierra 2500HD & 3500HD

GMC Sierra introduced all-new heavy-duty pickups during the ?07 model year. They were highlighted by all-new and differentiated exterior designs, two unique interiors and class-leading power and efficiency. They roll into 2008 ready for work or leisure, with minor refinements and enhancements, while still loaded with segment-leading and segment-exclusive features.

Sierra heavy-duties are offered in a range of 2500HD (three-quarter-ton) and 3500HD (one-ton) models and are available in WT, SLE and SLT trim. The range of configurations ? three cab styles, three cargo box styles and five wheelbase lengths ? delivers tremendous choice. Some full-size truck manufacturers do not even offer three-quarter-ton or one-ton heavy-duty trucks. And among those that do, the 2008 Sierra HD pickups offer many segment-best capabilities, including 18,500-pound (8,392 kg) gross combined vehicle weight rating for vehicles with a gas V-8 and a 13,000-pound (5,897 kg) conventional trailer weight rating enabled by a larger-capacity trailer hitch platform. Maximum towing capacity is 16,700 pounds (7,575 kg), when equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch.

Changes to the Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD for ?08 include standard XM Satellite Radio on all models, availability of a power-adjustable driver?s seat on regular cab models with a bench seat and two new exterior colors: Dark Crimson Metallic and Sonoma Red Metallic. Dually models in 2008 receive new, larger 17-inch wheels (replacing 16-inch wheels), which are available with bright wheel covers.

Introduced in 2007, the Acadia debuted as GMC?s first foray into the crossover market, offering seating for up to eight and combining the capability of an SUV with a smooth ride and responsive handling. Acadia is offered in SLE and SLT trims, with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. A comprehensive safety system includes six standard air bags and standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation technology.

Responsive performance in all models is derived from GM?s 3.6L V-6 VVT, rated at 275 horsepower (205 kW) and 251 lb.-ft. of torque (340 Nm).* The engine is backed by a fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed automatic transmission.

A new Panic Brake Assist feature is added to the 2008 Acadia . When panic braking is detected, the system automatically develops maximum brake boost to mitigate a driver?s tendency to brake without using enough force. Also, Acadia AWD models feature a new Active On Demand all-wheel-drive system that delivers a more refined driving experience.

Additional changes include:

A second-row console is now available and is partnered with a pair of captain?s chairs. The console offers two large storage compartments, two cupholders and is capable of folding flat into the load floor
XM Satellite Radio is standard on all models
The standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system now features new rear-wheel oversteer control for improved control on slippery surfaces and direct state rollover mitigation that supports preemptive oversteer control on evasive lane changes
Traction control system provides more refined performance and smoother control
Three new exterior colors are offered: Dark Crimson, Carbon Flash Metallic and Platinum Ice (Platinum Ice will be available later in the model year)
Also new for 2008 is a back-up camera that is available with the navigation system, providing a view of objects directly behind the vehicle, giving the driver more information when in reverse.

Envoy & Envoy Denali

GMC?s midsize SUVs move into the 2008 model year with minor refinements that enhance convenience, safety and style, including standard head curtain side air bags and standard XM Satellite Radio ? features that were previously optional on some models. A new, 20-inch polished aluminum wheel is available on some 2WD Envoy models and Envoy Denali. There are also three new exterior colors: Dark Cherry Metallic, Black Granite Metallic and Desert Brown Metallic.

Envoy and Envoy Denali are offered in a roomy, midsize package that rides on a 113-inch wheelbase (2,869 mm). The robust Vortec 4.2L six-cylinder is standard in Envoy models, while the powerful Vortec 5.3L V-8 is standard with Envoy Denali. The Vortec 5.3L is equipped with GM?s fuel-saving Active Fuel Management technology. Both vehicles come with an electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission and are available in 2WD and 4WD models.

Envoy and Envoy Denali offer a myriad of entertainment choices. In addition to the standard XM Satellite Radio, owners also opt for a Bose premium sound system, touch screen navigation and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. Envoy Denali takes GMC?s midsize SUV platform to the pinnacle of comfort and style, with specific design cues ? including the iconic chrome grille ? standard 18-inch wheels and tires and a host of standard amenities.

The 2008 GMC Canyon lineup builds on the significant product enhancements there were implemented in 2007, including two all-new, more powerful engines. As a result, changes for ?08 are minimal and include OnStar as standard equipment on all models, the inclusion of halogen front fog lamps on all models and the addition of three new exterior colors: Red Orange Metallic, Carbon Black Metallic and Dark Steel Gray Metallic. Unchanged is the stylish, capable package that truck customers have come to expect from Canyon.

Canyon?s lineup includes regular cab, extended cab and crew cab body styles; two pickup bed lengths; two available suspensions and two inline engines. Vehicles are offered in Work Truck, SLE and SLT trims. The popular Z71 Off Road package offers distinctive visual cues to augment its suspension differentiation; it is available on 2WD and 4WD models.

The base engine in all but Z71-equipped crew cabs is a powerful, 2.9L DOHC four-cylinder with variable valve timing (VVT) that delivers 185 horsepower (138 kW) and 190 lb.-ft. of torque (258 Nm).* Available in all models ? and standard in the crew cab with Z71 ? is a 3.7L DOHC five-cylinder with VVT that is rated at 242 horsepower (180 kW) and 242 lb.-ft. of torque (328 Nm).*

The GMC Savana is the dependable passenger hauler that can accommodate up to 15 passengers. It?s also a reliable and durable commercial cargo van and forms the foundation for many popular conversion vans. For the 2008 model year, Savana delivers a higher level of safety, a freshened interior and the performance of the Gen IV small-block V-8 engine family.

Savana?s roster of safety features is enhanced for 2008 with the inclusion of a standard tire pressure monitoring system, as well as new flat and convex exterior mirrors that offer a wider field of vision.

Standard on all passenger vans and available on cargo vans are head curtain side air bags, providing a higher level of protection in the event of a side impact or a vehicle rollover. For enhanced occupant retention, 12- and 15-passenger models feature Enhanced Technology Glass (ETG). Also new for 2008 are shoulder belts for the center seats on all passenger models.

Other GMC Savana safety features include four-wheel antilock disc brake system with Hydroboost, dynamic rear proportioning, StabiliTrak, driver and front-passenger air bags and daytime running lamps. All are standard across the Savana model lineup.
