I'm just curious (as a non-fan): Why does anyone care about this?

I certainly don't, but because so many guys were watching the game, or getting ready to watch the game, or recovering from watching the game, I pulled 4 easy loads yesterday.

    That's one advantage to being a non-fan!

Of course, it's been said here in Dallas that we support the Cowboys, win or tie.

Why "support" them at all? Who cares?

They are a group of highly paid entertainers. That's all. It's not some kind of community activity; they're not "loyal" to the state. It's a ... freaking game!

This emtional investment people have in "their" team is bewildering to me.

I'm with you. I have known a few of the players of games over the years (Joe Green, Charlie Hough, Reggie Cleveland), and I have found them to be, away from the game, rather clueless and lost, like fish out of the water.

Reggie is a tax fugitive in Canada, now, I think.

Ditto - although I didn't used to be as vehement about it. But today, football (and pro athlete) veneration has become cloying and obsessive and completely over the top. I have two good friends who would rather vegetate in front of the TV on a nice Saturday or Sunday afternoon than actually do something themselves. I think that's sad. They also get all excited talking about the fortunes of "their" team and how "we" did this weekend.. which saddens me all the more!
