    Update on wreck

There was only a blurb in our local paper (Floyd Press) about the wreck I witnessed last Sunday; the note said "details were not available as of press time" - which likely means there will be details in next week's Press, which comes out on Thursday.

    I will keep everyone posted...

So, a two-week wait for news.

Is this newspaper called "The Scroll and Quill?" Maybe, "Clay Tablets R Us."

I dare say, not as small as either town I went to high school in. Kiowa, Co, population at that time 198. Gentry, AR, population 1,000 at that time.

    Yep - you're right!

Last time I checked, Floyd County had appx. 14,000 residents. The area is (unfortunately) growing; "city folk" are coming in, even - and a few have built those godawful McMansions (I hope their wells run dry).

The paper is still caught in a '50s timewarp, though. "News" is delayed by weeks, not days. But it's the only game in town - and it's kind of quaint, anyhow.

And there are the classified ads....

The town where I have a house in Arkansas has a population of about 4,000. And it's the county seat, and a goodly portion of the county population. The county is 75% national forest.

So I am well acquainted with the "ancient history" aspect of many small-town newspapers.

So, does this week's paper have an update?

Yes, the paper had a story yesterday (Thurs.) and did include the victims' names. They're from Hillsville - which is not too far down the road from us. I am going to eithert give the guy a call or shoot him a note in the mail. No details on the extent of their injuries; the story just said they were taken to the hospital, etc. If I had a scanner I'd put the article up here but I'm a Luddite technophobe, as you know!

And people wonder why print media is dying - let's see you wait forever for info that gives no information or details.

The Floyd paper could have the Seinfeld show slogan - it's a paper about nothing.

    You ain't kidding!

It took us months just to get a subscription going... but it's ok. I'd rather have a "quaint" paper and a small town than the immediacy of the Big City... and all the scheisse that goes with it!

    Eric,

Good point, can't argue with that.
