    NZ Wins Football 7s again

Hi all you wimps and couch potatoes.

We just won another round of World Rugby 7 football.

Seven men, each side, full body contact, no armour, no forward passes.
...no play beyond the position of the ball, we won AGAIN USA and Canda and England don't even get past teams like Tonga.

South Africa can be tough when they bet their beserker going... but hey, there's on;y one winner, eh?

Cool calm, collected strength. That's why we won WW2.

"We just won another round of World Rugby 7 football."

Uh... how did "we" win anything, exactly?

It's my impression a team of athletes won a game.

Yes, athletes whose loyalty is to a paycheck and no particular nation or place.

    A cruel and cynical reply!

We shall see at Beijing if people are motivated by money, or national pride, or simple love of doing something well.

In the meantime the main pleasure of Football Rugby 7s as that there isn't any money in it, and we had a team from Kenya who got no payment above fares and $40/day and they defeated England and the USA failed again...

The serious players are South Africa, NZ Fiji and Samoa with occasional bursts from England, and the games are only around 20 minutes long and everyone has a good time, except the play is intense and not for money...

Nobody is going to see anything at Beijing unless they get some of the pollution cleared out.

Yeaah well they will do what command economies can do. There is a slight problem with pollution, but they can't do pea-soup like London could up till '53 or-so...

In the meantime some NY team has won something to do with football? "Super Bowl"... in a game which I presume has some appeal.. I'll get to see that last minute goal by the Giants shortly on TV news.

There can be a long gap between command and result, maybe infinitely long. What China is doing is simple and what every first world economy has done along the way: using externalities to subsidize industrial growth.

British fog was much better than the Chinese version. Basic mist and coal-smoke, lovely stuff.

    Dunno about 1970s LA 'smog'.
