    1960s cheese

So, you thought that cheese was limited to the 1970's and the 1980's. For sure, that is where the majority can be found. From the Brady Bunch to Knight Rider to other's with which I''m not all that familiar, cheese seemed to predominate. I would like to add one bad, bad, cheesy car movie to the list.

Hot Rods to Hell was about this geek father driving around his family in some nondescript family barge on vacation (presumably across the United States). This guy was such a pan that he advocated driving "55 mph," as it was "fast enough." Eugh. This was 7 years before the 55 mph speed limit became law. We were near the peak of the muscle car period.

Here is a clip from You Tube that you can all enjoy. Happy Motoring as they used to say.

It does not include the 55 mph quote, but it does give you an idea that Dana Andrews plays a total dipwad. He could have avoided the whole encounter if he put his foot in it.

    Pretty funny!

A lot of the stuff from that era looks really strange today. For example, watch Marlon Brando as a biker...

That movie is a cult classic mostly because TBS has played it for the last 20 years. Many are lobbing TBS to release it on DVD. I have seen the movie at least 3 times. The movie was super cheesy, the sound effects were crap - the Corvette in the movie had a high performance 6 cylinder sound not a V8 sound like it should have had. Dana Andrews was parnoid since he was hit by a drunk driver early on in the movie. However the real jem of this movie was the great music performed by Mickey Rooney Jr's (Mickey Rooney's son) Trio band. Here's one of the great songs Mickey Rooney Jr blasted out in the movie:

That's enough hot rod cheese to fill a grocery store.
