Chip H.Messing up, however, even in the playground, is wildly out of style. Although error and experimentation are the true mothers of success, parents are taking pains to remove failure from the equation.

Great point. We as a nation have become soft. If the current population would have to fend for itself like those in colonial days had to, most would starve.
Probably me included. I hate to admit it, but its true.Originally Posted by Pete

As to TV, I've just ordered out the entire 'Benny Hill' TV series on DVD, TV ain't all bad.
The word 'job' is not in my vocabulary.
How old do you have to be now before you can ride in a car without a child safety seat?
I think it's 10 years old and at least 80 lbs.

Amazing how any of us managed to survive childhood.
I think this new risk-free society is bad for the gene pool.

I deliberately ride my mountain bike just like I used to in the '70s and '80s - cut-off shorts, t-shirt and no god-damned helmet for saaaaafety!
I managed to 'drop it' once with about the degree of protective gear - it's the kind of thing you only do one time. For some reason my head and feet (no helmet and wearing loafers) managed to take the worst of it.Originally Posted by Eric

Hey, it takes a Real Man to wear spandex in public.

Actually, I got tired of tearing the spandex riding shorts up whenever I fell off the mountain bike, so I switched to the 'Baggy' style, which still has the spandex inside to hold things in place, but a tough nylon outer shell to protect against rocks, trees, derailleurs, etc.

Nope, they don't make spandex wide enough. And, I geve up bikes a few years ago when my balance got a tad iffy.Originally Posted by Eric
