    Speed limit

I hear Bremen in Germany has imposed a speed limit on the Autobahn in it's jurisdiction. I'm a life long conservationist but the Green Parties in Germany scare me. One of the party's is named (forgive my poor translation abilities) The Social Democratic National Party. Didn't my uncle have to deal with the National Socialists when he was in the Air Corps and later Air Force back in the 40's? I think they caused a lot of problems in the 30's too with their visions of a New World.

I don't have much use for the fatuity of American celebrities who tout the "green" life style. I can live with someone being a jerk. I'm not the most warm and cuddly person myself. However, I have a serious problem with hypocritical jerks. One woman who always spouts that "fur is murder" is then photographed with husband number 3, or 4, or 5 or whatever, dressed head to toe in leather.

    Honk if you love Jesus.

Text if you want to meet him.

Probably nothing new, as various stretches of the autobahn have had speed limits since 1965. The limits are typically near a large city where many merges and ramps are found.

Don't get hung up on the english translation of german names. The Social Democrats have been around since just after WWII, and is (or was) a fairly right-wing conservative party.

The Greens have argued that speed limits are necessary to curb energy usage; we may get the same spiel here, too. HildeBeast has already come out publicly as at least tacitly supporting the return of the 55 mph Interstate limit, etc. And The Chimp's ruinous policies in Iraq and otherwise have made it a fait accompli, regardless. We'll likely have $4 per gallon by summer - and be buying that twice-as-expensive gas (relative to before the Chimp got us into the Iraq debacle) with ever-more-worthless dollars (courtesy of the monkey-faced SOB's disastrous Fed policies, etc.)

I'm not up on current German politics, but I believe most of the "mainstream" parties are left of center. The NSDAP was a right wing (fascist/corporatist/militarist) nationalist party. Kind of like what we are erecting here... .

My view is that extremes of left and right are equally obnoxious.

I support what used to be called classical liberalism - the Jeffersonian point of view that favored limited government, individual rights and decentralized authority to the extent possible. The closest to that today is Libertarianism - although I part ways with them over the issue of (so-called) "free trade."

I heard about that as well. That may tilt the next election towards more conservative parties, although there is probably something more sinister at work. I can't believe that they chose 75 mph. uck.

Which does nothing to save gasoline. It's just another tax. Unreasonable speed limit signs will not slow down traffic a bit. It might even increase the average speed a bit, at least until a cop is seen or in areas that we know are more enforced than others.

The fastest speeds I ever drove was during the 55 MPH days. If I must look for cops at all times, I am going faster, just as do many others.

But anything is better than the phony gasoline shortages they had in the 1970's, where they closed MOST gas stations making sure all gas lines were very long so they could jack up the price very high at once with few complaining.

    Don -

Here, here. Me too. I used to try and double 55 mph every time I drove to visit my ailing mother who lived 200 miles from me.

Yeah, every political party over there is some different combination of that same group of words.

Sort of like the People's Liberation Front of Judea scen from "Life of Brian"...

On the other hand, I've always referred to a certain periodical here as "National Socialist Review".

    Absolutely.

However, it's an excellent means of exerting more arbitrary force upon the masses, which is usually irresistable to people such as Hildebeast....

Don't forget Odumbo, Eric, although he may ultimately have less success with Congress than the Hildebeast. The Hildebeast will have every political opponents private life exposed and every tax return audited. I don't think that Odumbo will do that... or maybe I'm wrong on that too.
