2008 Honda S2000 CR

I drove a few of the 1980s MPI V6 equipped Z24's and they were really neat cars. They handled well, and had plenty of punch under the hood. And they got about 30 mpg on the highway. For a buyer on a budget they provided a lot of bang for the buck. Another neat car of this vintage was the turbo 2.0 liter Pontaic 2000/Sunbird, those things put out between 150 - 165 horsepower back in the 1980s when most 4 cylinder sport fwd cars were lucky to have 100 horsepower. Car & Driver loved to trash the turbo 2000/sunbird and the Z24. It got so bad that during one test between about 10 different sporty fwd cars, the turbo 2000/Sunbird beat the competition in every performance/handling catagory, and they still trashed it in their reviews. Back then they should have been called their magazine Import Car & Driver, fortunately in recent years they have gotten more neutral and fair in their reviews. But back in the day those idiots at C&D would have taken a (4 banger) 1986 Porsche 924S (150 horsepower) over a 1986 TPI Corvette (230 horsepower), they were so biased in favor of imports.

Also here's my take on the S2000.

Its a very well balanced car and fun to drive. But Honda is unfortunately doing the same thing to it, that it did to the NSX. That is they come out with a great all-around sports car, and they don't really spend any money on it after that, and keep selling it until the sales slide and then they will cancel it.

I'm pretty certain that they've already announced that 2008 is the last model year for the S2000. And I don't think it will be directly replaced.

Thanks for the info, I did not realize this was the last year for the S2000. What a pity, it looks like Honda will be replacing it with some 2+2 from what I just read. Seems to me that there is enough of a market to continue to make the S2000, but I guess the bean counters at Honda got their way.

Honda really dropped the ball with the S2000. It was a "big deal" when it came out - and generated a lot of positive press for the brand; but they just let it die on the vine, as GM did with Camaro/Firebird....
